Lawrence Hogue was born in Eureka, California, in 1961 and is the author of All the Wild and Lonely Places: Journeys in a Desert Landscape, published in 2000. He lives in San Diego and works for the Desert Protective Council as communications coordinator and editor of the organization’s quarterly newsletter, “EI Paisano.” A desert environmentalist, Hogue is involved in ongoing efforts to save the endangered peninsular bighorn sheep, which is native to low-elevation desert slopes, canyons, and washes from the mountains near Palm Springs to Baja California, a region that includes Anza-Borrego Desert State Park.
