Cultural and Historic Resources

Often the preservation of cultural resources and open spaces often goes hand in hand. In western Riverside County, the citrus industry was the economic engine driving the prosperity of the first settlers to the region. Classic “grove houses” like Riverside’s Heritage House, and national historic landmarks like Victoria Avenue and the Mission Inn, were as threatened by the pressures of growth as open spaces. The women of “Making Waves” recognized the value of the area’s early history and the contribution of these resources to the region’s quality of life and worked to preserve them.
