1:00 pm: IN THE SUNSHINE OF NEGLECT: A DIALOGUE WITH DOUGLAS MCCULLOH

Freedom can be found at the margins. That’s the subject of a new book, companion piece to the first-ever 2019 survey exhibition In the Sunshine of Neglect: Defining Photographs and Radical Experiments in Inland Southern California, 1950 to the Present, curated by artist and UCR ARTS: California Museum of Photography Senior Curator Douglas McCulloh.

In the Sunshine of Neglect includes 194 works by 54 photographers including Robert Adams, Judy Chicago, Lewis deSoto, Hiroshi Sugimoto, and more, as well as original essays by renowned authors and photographers including McCulloh and Susan Straight.

Douglas McCulloh is a photographer, writer, and curator based in Southern California.  He is the author of six books and his work has been shown internationally in more than 250 exhibitions.

2:00 pm: I AM YOU AND YOU ARE ME AT THE CULVER

On March 8th join us and Glocally Connected for "I Am You and You Are Me" at the Culver! Featured artwork from Draw the Day Away: A Push for Healing Through Art and Therapy.

Hear a preview reading of "The Stranger is My Friend", a collection of art and poetry by Afghan refugees developed with Glocally Connected. Anthology pre-orders accepted during event.

Stay for a film screening of "Fighting for Family", which tells the story of a family separated by deportation and incarceration, and their fight for reunification.

Free and open to the public, light refreshments will be served.
