The Longest Night - A Cartless Solstice

    December 21, 2021 December 22, 2021

Winter Solstice is the longest night of the year. While many of us revel in the first day of winter, for the unhoused, it is a night of extreme hardship at a time when others are experiencing joy and plenty. Inlandia is home to Cartless, a writing workshop program for the unhoused, in partnership with Path of Life Ministries.

This year, to shine a light on Homeless Persons' Memorial Day, which happens annually on December 21, Cartless founder and workshop leader Lydia Theon Ware i and others have committed to staying awake and writing one poem each hour between the hours of 5 PM and 5 AM. We invite you to pledge $1 for each hour — a total of $12 — all of which will go to support Cartless, which has expanded to the family shelter this year, serving parents and children without homes.

Please join us in staying up and writing and posting a poem every hour on the hour — or participate as you are able, on your own or with friends and family. Your words matter!
