    Celebrating Cultura: Cinco de Mayo over the Ages

    The Inlandia Institute, in partnership with Riverside Art Museum and The Cheech, is excited to present a dynamic panel discussion about the significance of el Cinco de Mayo to Chicanos. Join José Chávez, Dr. Carlos Cortés, Jorge Mr. Blue Hernandez, Dr. Irene M. Sanchez, Ofelia Valdez-Yeager, and Frances J. Vasquez at 6:00 PM on Wednesday, May 5, to hear about cultural and historical perspectives of why Chicanos have embraced Batalla de Puebla, which took place in México 159 years ago — on May 5, 1862.

    The program will be a festive evening celebrating cultura with local educators and cultural arts aficionados with pláticas, music, poetry, stories, and reflections on the Chicano/Latina experience regarding el Cinco de Mayo and the celebrations in California since 1863.

    EEC's Environmental Art Contests for 2021 DEADLINE

    EEC's Environmental Art Contests for 2021 DEADLINE


    May 15, 2021

    In partnership with Environmental Education Collaborative, Inlandia Institute is putting out a call for visual, literary, and performance artists throughout Riverside and San Bernardino Counties. The EEC’s virtual art contest for 2021 is now open for submissions from students Pre-K though 12th grade and adults. Participants must submit their art no later than 9:00 PM on Saturday, May 15, 2021. Awards will be announced on World Environment Day, Saturday, June 5, 2021.

    The Tesoros de Cuentos workshop led by Frances J. Vasquez will resume this summer. Please check back with us for new dates and registration information.

    This popular bilingual/bicultural workshop is geared for Riverside residents and will meet via Zoom. With the goal of giving voice to the rich bicultural stories and poems that come from the heart, participants will put their ideas into writing to share with family and friends. As the Dicho says: “Las palabras vuelan; los escritos quedan.” When safe to do so, workshop meetings will continue at the SSgt. Salvador J. Lara Casa Blanca Library.

    Join Inland Empire poet and educator Romaine Washington for an empowering conversation with the founders and facilitators of Healthy Heritage’s innovative Broken Crayons Still Color Program. Designed to teach members of the African American community about mental health, participants are invited to engage in a free, culturally infused eight-week course where poetry, videos, collaborative assignments, and discussions are key.
