His work has been translated into a dozen languages and Crying was named a Notable Book by The New York Times. His book Doing Nothing (2007) won the American Book Award. He is the founding editor of the Los Angeles Review of Books and is department chair and Distinguished Professor of Creative Writing at UC Riverside. Born Slippy is his first novel.
