1:30 pm: CONVERSATIONS AT THE CULVER WITH Tom Lutz1:30 pm: CONVERSATIONS AT THE CULVER WITH Tom Lutz – Join Inlandia at the Culver for a conversation with Tom Lutz on his first novel, Born Slippy. With elements of noir, adventure, romance, and political satire, Lutz seduces us into a literary meditation, explorations of masculinity and blurred morality under global capitalism and bulldozing rapacity. Tom Lutz is the author of several books, including And the Monkey Learned Nothing (2016), Drinking Mare’s Milk on the Roof of the World (2017) and Crying: The Natural & Cultural History of Tears (2001). His work has been translated into a dozen languages and Crying was named a Notable Book by The New York Times. His book Doing Nothing (2007) won the American Book Award. He is the founding editor of the Los Angeles Review of Books and is department chair and Distinguished Professor of Creative Writing at UC Riverside. Born Slippy is his first novel. 7:00 pm: ARTS WALK: SHEROES WITH STEVIE TAKEN AND INLAND STORYTELLERS7:00 pm: ARTS WALK: SHEROES WITH STEVIE TAKEN AND INLAND STORYTELLERS – Stevie Taken is the Artistic Director for The Homespun Players, a non-profit theatre company in Riverside. Stevie is delighted to collaborate with Inlandia Institute on the storytelling event, Sheroes. The storytelling will include local writers as well as Stevie’s own take on the real life Sheroes she has discovered. Have a Shero of your own? Bring your story and take the stage at the Open Mic. Stevie Taken, of Riverside, has formed her own theatre company, as well as appeared as Frankenstein author Mary Shelley over the past two years for the Riverside Dickens Festival. The Riverside Public Library is located at 3581 Mission Inn Avenue. This event will take place downstairs, is free and open to the public. It is supported by the Friends of the Riverside Public Library. |
