    "Writing for Children" with José Chavez (Beg.-Int.)

    This workshop is designed to meet the needs of those who wish to write or are writing for children. We’ll explore the writing voice for children, define a “picture book,” story arc, story introductions, appropriate vocabulary, children’s poetry, and more. There will be time to flex our writing muscles and develop the beauty and strength of our “voice” for children.

    What is at the heart of our community? What makes it stand out?  What connects us to it? Teens in the Home Gardens neighborhood can find out in this uniquely home-inspired series of events including an author talk, professional photography workshop, creative writing workshop, exhibit and electronic chapbook publication, all designed to preserve and share the image this neighborhood as seen by the diverse group of young people ages 12 and up who call this place home.

    This generative workshop will provide prompts to encourage Black poets, writers, and artists to reflect on and express their personal experiences, challenges, and hopes. At the end of the workshop participants are encouraged to submit their work for possible publication in the anthology.

    Inlandia's Blacklandia Events Series Presents "June Edmonds and the Legacy of American Abstract Painting" with Richard Allen May III and Lisa Henry beginning September 10, 2022. All levels.

    Coinciding with the Riverside Art Museum’s exhibition of abstract painter June Edmonds, this four-part workshop will survey the hidden history of American Abstract art. Focusing on the vibrant work of LA-based artist June Edmonds, the workshop will give participants a background on American Abstract painters with a special focus on women and artists of color like Edmonds who have pursued a path of abstraction with an emphasis on color, pattern, and texture to create works of stunning power. All are welcome.

    Consecutive Saturdays, 9/10, 9/17, and 9/24, 4:00-5:30 PM PT, on Zoom. There will be one in-person meeting on October 1 at Riverside Art Museum from 2:30-4:00 PM.
