On March 30, 2017, from 5 - 7 pm, the Inlandia Institute is proud to host the workshop, "Queer Creative Writing: Finding Your Voice and Using It", a poetry workshop for queer-identified folks who want to not only develop their craft but also learn how to perform in front of an audience. This workshop will led by Micah Tasaka and will take place on the campus of San Bernardino Valley College.

This workshop is open to anyone who identifies as a queer/trans* person of color or is a queer/trans*-identified ally to people of color.

In this workshop, discussion topics will include the legacy of queer of color writers who often get overlooked in most creative writing classes, as well as the writing process: developing ideas, creating poetry, and revision. This will be an interactive workshop involving guided free writes, group writing, and sharing work created in the workshop. This is a safe space open to anyone who identifies as queer or trans*.

Micah Tasaka is a queer biracial poet from the Inland Empire exploring the intersections of identity, spirituality, gender, sexuality, and recovering from trauma. They received their undergraduate degree in creative writing from the University of California, Riverside. They have performed throughout Southern California and have featured in Riverside, Los Angeles, Long Beach, and Palm Springs. Their debut chapbook, Whales in the Watertank, was self-published in 2014. They have been featured on The Blood Jet Writing Hour literary blog, and their work was published in the In The Words Of Women 2016 International Anthology and Inlandia: A Literary Journey, Volume VI, Issue I, Spring 2016.
