This month, three “Writing About Black Art” workshops (March 5, 12, and 19) will explore writing about Black art from a feminist perspective.

Through class lectures, Zoom discussion groups, and homework exercises, participants will learn about selected African American artists from different perspectives and produce a 350-word essay concentrating on one work of art. Time will also be devoted to peer reviews of essay drafts in Zoom discussion groups. These workshops are designed to develop marketable skills as a freelance writer writing about Black art and artists.

Bilingual Writing Workshop, Tesoros de Cuentos, with Frances J. Vasquez and Kimberly Olvera-Du Bre will focus on “Storytelling Via the Arts: Riverside Murals” – Beginning – All Genres – weekly on Fridays, 3/11, 3/18/, 3/25, 4/1, 4/8, and 4/22/22 – from 1:00-3:00 PM IN PERSON at SSgt. Salvador J. Lara Casa Blanca Library, 2985 Madison St, Riverside. As the Dicho says: “Las palabras vuelan; los escritos quedan.”

Murals are excellent sources of inspiration. Frances J. Vasquez and Kimberly Olvera Du Bry will lead small personal group tours of select Riverside murals. Participants will visit the various murals and discuss their artistic themes, backgrounds, and provide relevant writing prompts to inspire the creative writing to flow. For those who need it, rides may be provided from the Lara Library to and from the sites.
